An older member of the Emestrian Guardscorp, Kaleb volunteers for dungeon duty. It is a relatively safe duty but involves caring for prisoners that have undergone torture by the army to extract information. Few volunteer for the duty due to the sound and sights of torture, the low pay, and the boredom. Kaleb ignores a lot of the rules of the job and when not supervised, talks to the prisoners and allows them to talk to each other. Many don’t understand why Kaleb volunteers for the uneviable task, but with a wife and daughter and a relatively successful cheese business run by his wife, Kaleb prefers safety over pay.
Kaleb has worked in his position for close to two decades and was the guard present during Miro’s stay in the dungeons fifteen years ago. During Miro’s extended stay, the two talked often and although Miro was cagey about the details of his own life and incarceration, he actively listened and advised Kaleb about his marriage and new baby at the time. When Kaleb’s wife packed an extra large lunch, he even shared meals with Miro.
After his shifts, Kaleb can usually be found at a local tavern sharing a drink with two other guards, Lieutenant Narja Jakul, and Corporal Zeshei Shammei. The three often drink well into the evening with either one or all of them needing to be helped back to the barracks or their respective houses.
Although a lot of guards stay in the barracks to save for purchasing domiciles or for easy access to work, Kaleb and his wife own a small farm in Solstice where they keep goats and cows. The milk is turned into cheese and Kaleb often trades cheese for favors or other food stuffs.
He is a doting and overprotective father. Every guard knows what Catherine Dorn looks like and reports back to Kaleb on her where abouts and what she is up to. They are usually rewarded with a chunk of cheese.
