Books and Booze Guidelines:
- Tables and chairs will be provided for authors. Tables are 5’x2′ and can accommodate a small display.
- There are no table fees for the event, but authors are encouraged to purchase food and alcohol (or non-alcoholic drinks from the bar). Goodbar does not charge us for these events, which dominate the main bar room for 4 hours.
- Each author will have the opportunity to read for ~5 minutes. Humor and spice have performed the best in past readings. Although this is a literary event, it is a mixed-use space. Some bar patrons are present but may not know a literary event is happening. As such, readings cannot contain slurs, bestiality, extreme torture, and/or non-consent.
- Authors are encouraged to bring friends, family, and coworkers to the event. I find its best to promote fellow authors who are attending rather than your own work when inviting friends and family to the event.
- Authors are asked to help promote the event. I promote through fliers, posts, and paid ads, but turnout will depend on how much and well authors promote the event. Tag @GoodbarPDX and @BookswithChristopher on Instagram so they can repost your content.
- All authors are welcome. Preference will be given to authors who have not attended in the past, haven’t been to a recent Books and Booze event, or have a new book available.
- Parking is available for unloading and loading, but authors are asked to move their cars to street parking during the event.
- For every drink or food item purchased, patrons will receive a raffle ticket. Raffle winners will get to pick a dragon egg (a 3D printed egg with a dragon inside). Each egg will contain a prize (book rebates, free books, or other swag). Contributing items to the raffle is not required but encouraged.
- I will do author spotlights on each author. I’ll send out a list of questions based on your books and author bio, and curate an Instagram carousel based on the authors’ answers. There will also be an author spreadsheet for each event. Authors will receive an email with a link to the spreadsheet and should fill out the information to help me promote them to readers.
