A half-blood, Miro is unaware whether his mother or father were Emestrian, of if they were each half-bloods themselves. The most Miro knows about his parents is his father dropped him off at an orphanage shortly after his mother died in child birth. Miro was raised for the first ten years of his life in a state-sponsored orphanage. At the time, it was common practice for Emestrian nobles to adopt children with magical affinity from orphanages to fight in place of their biological children.
Miro showed great affinity with the healing aracana as a young boy. Where most sorcerors would need formal training, Miro was able to imitate the gestures he saw visiting healers do when they donated their services to fix the orphans broken bones, scraped knees, and contagious diseases. Miro learned to cast magic on his playground friends if they suffered scrapes so they could play longer.
All magically gifted are blessed with an over abundance of one of the gods or goddesses primary attributes. For Miro it was too much love for others, the aspect of the Goddess of Love, Seraph.
One day, an adult at the oprphanage was unlucky enough to be under a large branch when it fell from a tree, pinning them, breaking several ribs, and leading to internal bleeding. Miro cast magic well beyond his ability to stabilize them. The physical toll the magic took on Miro resulted in him entering a year long coma. During that time of unconcsiousness, Miro was shipped between orphanages until his story was finally heard by the wealthy and influential Krestel family of Emestria.
The Krestel adopted Miro and paid for his medical care until he was fit enough to join the magic academy and be properly trained in magic. At the academy, as a teenager, Miro went alternated between periods of high achieving activity and what others termed ‘rebellious laziness.’ Weeks would go by where Miro would oversleep for all his classes, nap during class, and find difficulty completing everyday tasks.
One of Miro’s teachers, Issaroh, had heard of the child’s ability to heal and became a teacher at the academy to meet the wonderkid. Issaroh took a liking to Miro, partly because of his magical prowess, and partly because Miro reminded him of his deceased son. Issaroh was the most forgiving of Miro’s nature. He was always impressed with how quickly Miro was able to learn a spell if he ever applied himself, but dismayed that Miro showed little interest in learning the theory and applications of magic. To Miro magic seemed like a trick that once learned there was little reason to know the why and how of it.
When the war over Lynnfield began, Miro was removed from the academy to serve in lieu of the Krestel’s oldest son. Due to the Krestel’s influence, and Miro healing talent, he was placed in Price Artorius Bryant’s regiment to keep the second-born prince safe. On his last night, Issaroh told Miro about Magi. Issaroh explained to Miro what a magus was, a sorceror with the ability to command all of the schools of magic, but to become one would require an unforgivable sacrifice. Issaroh told Miro that at some point in his life, when he was in great need, a being might appear and offer him the deal to become a magus and he must not make the bargain.
At some point during the battle of Lynnfield, Miro did become in great need and he didn’t heed his mentor’s words. Miro doesn’t talk about the battle of Lynnfield, but only he and two others survived the decimation of the town and surrounding area. Shortly after the conclusion of the battle, Miro left Emestria in a self-imposed exile. Issaroh found him after the war, living in squalor and feeding off the land. Issaroh tried his best to help him, but Miro was uncommunicative at most times and combative the other. When another one of the survivors of the battle came and found Miro, his mood seemed to improve and Issaroh left them to try and forge their own life.
When Issaroh returned a year later to check up on his pupil, he found out that Serra had left him, calling him a monster as she did. It was then that Miro confided in Issaroh that he had become a magus. Issaroh had already known this, it is impossible for magi to hid from each other, but he told Miro the full story of what he had to give up in order to become a magus. Miro became enraged upon hearing what Issaroh sacrificed and couldn’t believe Issaroh didn’t give Miro the full details. Despite Miro’s admonishments, Issaroh continued to visit Miro during his self-imposed exile until Rouke’s siege against Emestria that stymied the flow of people in and out of Emestria.
In Miro’s exile, he researched the Legendary Artifacts, in particular the Soul Gem, a prison used to capture the mad God Defurge. Miro believes the artifact could be wielded against the demon he claims responsible for the destruction of Lynnfield. He went as far to compile a treatise and send it to now King Artorius Bryant petitioning him for an expedition to recover artifacts to prove their existence and eventually hunt down the Soul Gem.
